HOUSTON, TX — Jesse Turner, frontman for the Latin Grammy-winning Tejano band Siggno, performed a stirring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Houston Texans game on Sunday (September 28) at NRG Stadium. This marks the second time Turner has been invited to sing the national anthem for the NFL team.
The Tejano star arrived in Houston early Sunday morning, just hours after a late-night performance in Austin. Despite the exhausting schedule, Turner shared a video in front of NRG Stadium before the game, visibly excited about the opportunity. “It’s an exciting moment for me, you know, a little bit sad because my mom’s not here to witness it, but I know she’s giving me the strength and considering me her above in her blessings,” he said.
Turner’s mother, Narcisa Cortez Ruiz, passed away just a month ago. She was a guiding influence in his life, often seen praying over him at concerts, and Turner frequently shared moments with her on social media. The emotional weight of her absence was felt moments before his performance when the Texans presented Turner with a heartfelt letter expressing condolences. “‘Jesse, on behalf of the Houston Texans, we would like to give our deepest condolences to you and your family. We appreciate you being here during this difficult time. Your Texans family is with you and we are excited to have you here today. Sincerely, Houston Texans.’ I wasn’t expecting that,” Turner shared in a video, visibly moved.
In front of more than 70,000 fans, Turner delivered a powerful and emotional performance of the national anthem before the Texans faced off against the Tennessee Titans. The game ended with Houston earning their first victory of the season in dominant fashion, shutting out the Titans 26–0.

For Turner, the moment was more than just another high-profile performance — it was a tribute to his mother and a celebration of resilience, faith, and love through music.
