Official Eligibility Window & Submissions

Before an artist or song can be considered for a Tejano Music Award, the work must meet strict eligibility guidelines set by TTMA:

Release Window: Music submitted for consideration must have been officially released within TTMA’s designated eligibility period, usually the previous calendar year.
Digital Verification: TTMA requires proof of release date. Submissions must include direct links to verified digital distribution platforms (such as Apple Music, Spotify, or Amazon Music) where the release date is explicitly displayed.
Authorized Entry: Nominations are submitted only by authorized representatives—such as record labels, managers, or artists themselves—rather than general fan write-ins.

Established vs. New Artist Qualifications

TTMA differentiates between established performers and rising talent to ensure fair competition:

Established Artists: To submit in major categories (such as Male/Female Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, or Album of the Year), established artists must demonstrate an ongoing record of releases, typically requiring a history of at least four full-length albums.
Best New Artist Categories: Designed to shine a spotlight on emerging acts, candidates in new artist categories must be within their initial release cycle and cannot have previously won or competed as an established artist in major categories.

The Two-Phase Voting System & Top 5 Nominees

The path to receiving an award consists of two main voting stages:

The Industry Ballot Phase: Once submissions are verified against eligibility rules, TTMA opens the Industry Ballot. Industry professionals, radio personalities, record executives, and TTMA members review eligible entries to narrow down the preliminary field.
The Public Ballot Phase: The top qualifiers from the industry round advance to the official Public Ballot, where fans worldwide cast their votes online at TejanoMusicAwards.com. To protect the integrity of the voting process, TTMA enforces strict rules—including limits per IP address to eliminate duplicate or automated votes.

The Top 5 Official Nominees Unveiling

Once the public voting period officially closes, all industry and fan votes are calculated. From those final vote totals, the Top 5 official nominees in each category are formally revealed to the public as the final contenders leading into the awards ceremony where the winner in each category is announced.
