Multiple Grammy-winning Tejano icons La Mafia have once again issued a strong warning to fans about online scams, marking the second time this summer the group has had to address fraudulent activity.
On social media, La Mafia revealed that a fake AI-generated video featuring frontman Oscar De La Rosa is circulating on WhatsApp, with scammers using the deepfake to trick fans into sending money.
“SCAM ALERT! A fake video generated with artificial intelligence (AI) is circulating on WhatsApp where Oscar de la Rosa appears saying romantic phrases to deceive fans and ask them for money,” the group’s statement read. “That video is fake. We have NO WhatsApp or Telegram account. We never ask our fans for money. Please don’t share that video and report it if you receive it. Let’s protect each other. Thank you for your support and love as always. — With respect and truth, La Mafia.”
De La Rosa also commented from his verified, blue-check-marked account, adding, “Don’t fall for scammers anymore, there are many fake profiles.. This is my only official account.”
This warning follows a similar alert issued in June, when the legendary vocalist cautioned fans about fake social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram posing as him or the band. Those impersonator accounts were contacting fans, promoting fake Telegram groups, and pushing bogus giveaways. In some cases, the scammers used WhatsApp numbers to further the deception.
“This is completely false and we would never ask for your personal information or money through any means,” De La Rosa stressed at the time. “Please don’t fall for these traps. The only way to make sure you’re in contact with my real accounts is to verify that they are officially marked with the blue checkmark.”
La Mafia’s warning echoes similar statements from other Tejano stars, including Bobby Pulido and Jesse Turner of Siggno, as impersonator accounts continue to target loyal fans across social platforms.
The cautionary message arrives as La Mafia continues their Vive El Momento Tour 2025, playing to sold-out crowds across the U.S. and Mexico. The band, who also launched their own premium tequila brand last year, remains a dominant force in Latin music more than four decades after forming in Houston in 1980.
Known for their distinctive blend of pop, cumbia, and traditional Mexican sounds, La Mafia—fronted by De La Rosa and producer/keyboardist Armando Lichtenberger Jr.—has earned multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, dozens of chart-topping hits, and a permanent place in Tejano music history.
Fans are urged to report any suspicious activity and always verify official accounts before engaging. “Thank you for your support,” De La Rosa added. “And most importantly—protect yourselves from scammers.”
