Tejano legend Ram Herrera marked an extraordinary milestone this past weekend as he celebrated 45 years in the Tejano music industry with a heartfelt ceremony surrounded by family, friends, and devoted fans. The celebration took place on Friday, July 19, at The Social Spot in San Antonio, honoring “The Most Wanted Man” and “The Outlaw” of Tejano music with official proclamations and statewide recognition from Bexar County, the City of San Antonio, and the State of Texas.

Bexar County Clerk Lucy Adame-Clark led the presentations, delivering a touching tribute and multiple honors, including a Texas flag flown over Alamo Plaza on July 18, presented on behalf of her office and the City of San Antonio. Clark read aloud from the proclamations:

“Congratulations, Ramiro ‘Ram’ Herrera, for your outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the Tejano music industry. Your dedication to capturing the Hispanic culture through Grammy-nominated and Billboard-topping music will be remembered for generations to come.”

Clark also presented a challenge coin symbolizing the cultural heritage of Coahuila, which once served as Texas’ capital and covered parts of present-day Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico.

A separate proclamation from San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz-Jones celebrated Herrera’s inspirational journey:

“For 45 years, you have touched the hearts of countless fans with your smooth, soulful voice and your remarkable ability to blend traditional Tejano with modern flair. You’ve built a legacy of timeless music and unforgettable performances.”

Steve Ray of the Texas Music Office delivered a proclamation from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, along with a Texas flag flown over the state Capitol in honor of Herrera’s milestone. The governor’s letter praised Herrera as a trailblazer:

“You emerged as a pioneering figure in Tejano music, captivating audiences with your smooth voice, dynamic presence, and prodigious talent… Your contributions reflect the Lone Star State’s tradition of artistic achievement, and I am proud to call you a fellow Texan.”

In a humble and heartfelt address to attendees, Herrera expressed his gratitude:

“Thank you very much… I’m not much into politics, but I saw the Capitol for the first time. It gave me a lot of pride to be an American. I hope I can keep on doing this as long as I can. With the good Lord’s help, I think we can all do it.”

Herrera’s Tejano music journey spans more than four decades. He first gained fame in the early 1980s as a powerhouse vocalist for David Lee Garza y Los Musicales before launching his solo career. In 1986, he released his iconic debut album, Most Wanted Man, achieving gold status. His 1989 album The Outlaw cemented his status as a leading figure in Tejano, introducing his band The Outlaws.

Known for his chart-topping hits, Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, and Tejano Music Awards, including Male Entertainer of the Year, Herrera has remained a beloved ambassador of the genre. More recently, he’s turned his focus to gospel music, continuing to inspire audiences with songs of faith and hope.

As he enters this next chapter, Ram Herrera’s passion, humility, and iconic voice remain as powerful as ever—continuing to unite generations and preserve the rich legacy of Tejano music for years to come.
