Cezar Martinez, the current and longest-tenured lead singer of Grammy-winning Tejano band David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, is contesting a recent DWI charge following a single-vehicle accident on Father’s Day, June 15, 2025. The 32-year-old singer, who also serves as secretary of the Robstown Independent School District Board of Trustees, was arrested after reportedly crashing his vehicle into a fence while driving to Robstown.
According to KRIS 6 News, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to the incident and arrested Martinez on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor. He was booked into Live Oak County Jail and released the following day after posting a $3,500 bond.
In a statement shared via social media, Martinez maintained his innocence and his intention to fight the charge in court. “At this time, I want to be very clear: this is an accusation. I have not been convicted of any crime. I do believe wholeheartedly in the principles that guide our justice system—namely, the presumption of innocence and the right to due process. I look forward to the opportunity to contest these charges in court, where I will allow the process to take its rightful course,” he stated.
Martinez also addressed his constituents directly, expressing regret over the incident and outlining the demanding schedule leading up to the crash. He noted that fatigue played a significant role. “On the morning of Father’s Day at approximately 7:45 a.m., after an extended period of travel related to my work as an active musician, I was involved in a really bad single car accident. I was exhausted. What I believe was due to a lack of sleep, I lost control of my vehicle and it ended up being totaled,” he said. Martinez explained that his busy weekend included travel to San Antonio for the TASB Summer Leadership Institute, performances in Dallas and Lytle, and then the return drive to Robstown.
Acknowledging the public nature of his roles, Martinez said he informed his fellow trustees immediately and pledged continued dedication to his responsibilities. “My commitment to this school district and to the families, students, and staff I serve has not wavered. My vision, my goals, and my dedication to education and public service remain steadfast,” he added.
This marks the second reported DWI arrest for Martinez. In November 2019, he was charged following a traffic stop in which a DPS trooper noted an open container in his vehicle. That case was ultimately dismissed in 2021 due to insufficient evidence.
Martinez, who has led Los Musicales for over a decade, is known for hits like “Hasta El Día,” “Otros Planes,” and “Destellame.” He has recorded multiple albums with the band, including Solamente Tú and Así Es La Vida. Despite this latest legal challenge, Martinez assures fans and the Robstown community of his unwavering focus on both his music career and public service.
