Selena Y Los Dinos Documentary Among Screenings in Sundance Film Festival

PARK CITY, UT — The highly anticipated documentary Selena y Los Dinos, honoring the legacy of the “Queen of Tejano Music” Selena Quintanilla-Perez, is among the featured films in this year’s 2025 Sundance Film Festival: Local Lens— a free summer screening series presented by the Sundance Institute for Utah audiences from July 17–19.

The acclaimed documentary, which won the 2025 Sundance U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling, will screen Friday, July 18 at 8:30 p.m. at The Ray Theatre in Park City. Directed by Isabel Castro and distributed by Netflix, Selena y Los Dinos chronicles Selena’s rise from local performances with her family band to international superstardom, using never-before-seen footage from the Quintanilla family archive. The film captures the passion, struggles, and groundbreaking success of one of the most influential figures in Latin music history.

The Local Lens program offers Utah residents the rare opportunity to experience standout films from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival for free, ahead of their wider releases. This year’s lineup includes a diverse mix of eight fiction and documentary titles, with appearances by filmmakers and post-screening Q&As. Other featured films include TwinlessOmahaRebuildingAll That’s Left of YouCome See Me in the Good LightThe Librarians, and The Dating Game.

In addition to screenings, the series will host a Local Lens Artist Roundtable on July 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.at Spy Hop Rooftop Event Space in Salt Lake City. This event invites filmmakers and creatives of all levels to engage with Sundance programmers in a collaborative discussion on the artistic process.
