SAN ANTONIO, TX — Tejano music icon Shelly Lares, affectionately known as “Little Miss Dynamite,” was honored with induction into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame during a moving ceremony on May 31, 2025. The event, themed “Moving Foward Together,” celebrated 15 incredible women whose achievements span business, education, the arts, health, public service, and beyond—women who have shaped and inspired the San Antonio community.
Lares, recognized in the category of Creative Arts, took to social media to express her gratitude for the prestigious honor. “I was truly humbled to be inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame,” she shared. “To be among such powerful, passionate, and driven women is a tremendous honor. I’ve been inspired by women like these, and now to be recognized for inspiring others is surreal. I’m grateful to have shared this moment with my beautiful wife and my mom, who has been my lifelong role model.”
She extended special thanks to Juan Niño from University of Texas-San Antonio for hosting her at the university’s table, to her friend Jaclyn for the stunning flowers and a Tiffany & Co. pen “to bless my business,” and to fellow honorees and mentors, especially Dr. Patsy Torres.

A San Antonio native, Lares launched her professional music career at the young age of 10. She quickly rose to the top of the Tejano charts, earning Grammy nominations and amassing an impressive catalog of beloved hits that have defined the genre. Though she officially retired from touring in 2022, Lares remains deeply involved in the music community. She mentors emerging Tejano artists through her label, Shellshock Records 3, and runs her own recording studio. As Artist-in-Residence at the University of Texas at San Antonio, she continues to nurture the next generation of talent.
In addition to her musical endeavors, Lares also gives back to the community by supporting Harmony Hospice Care of San Antonio through music therapy and community engagement—a testament to her dedication to using her talents to uplift others.
