Tejano music fans have something new to celebrate as Freddie Records premiered the official music video for “Incompetente En El Amor,” the latest single from multi-award-winning vocalist Jay Perez. The video debuted this week, offering a visual complement to the heartfelt track that has quickly become a standout in Perez’s extensive catalog.
Directed by Roxane Perez and produced and edited by Mikeshotit, the video was filmed on location at the vibrant Papi Gallo Cantina in San Antonio, Texas. The setting adds an authentic flair to the emotionally charged performance, as “La Voz” brings his trademark passion to the screen.
“Incompetente En El Amor” serves as the lead single from Jay Perez’s highly anticipated forthcoming album, slated for release later this year. The track follows a series of recent hits, including “Necesito Odiarte,” “La Rajita De Canela,” “Dices,” and the fan-favorite collaboration “Vino Maldito” featuring David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales.
Fresh off his 2024 Tejano Music Awards win for Song of the Year and current Male Vocalist of the Year honors, Jay continues to solidify his legacy with this new release. Produced by longtime music director Jay Alaniz and engineered by Mariano Herrera, the single delivers a smooth midtempo conjunto groove layered with rich accordion and bajo quinto. Jay’s emotive vocals soar over the arrangement, capturing the longing and vulnerability at the heart of the song.
The emotional lyrics were penned by celebrated songwriters Oscar Antonio Rosas Rodriguez and Leopoldo Zuniga Cano, known for crafting hits that resonate deeply with listeners. The project also boasts a powerhouse team of executive producers in The Martinez Brothers — Freddie Martinez, Jr., John Martinez, and Marc Martinez — ensuring the highest level of production quality and vision.
With the release of this official video, Jay Perez continues to prove why he remains one of the most respected and beloved voices in Tejano music today.
