Tejano music legend Gary Hobbs is gearing up for his much-anticipated next album, which marks his second collaboration with Freddie Records, following the success of his first album Sin Fin. In a recent interview, “El Borrado de Eagle Pass” shared exciting updates about the new project and his ongoing journey in the music world.
“We’ve been looking at material for the album, and so far, we’ve settled on four songs,” said Hobbs. “But we’re taking it week by week. We’re willing to get to stepping, but we’re Tejanos. We have Tejano rancheras, and even within that, we are keyboard-oriented, but we’re always trying to figure out new things.” He gave a special shout-out to his producer, a longtime friend from Robstown, Texas, and all the contributing musicians and studio team members, including Eli and Mariano.
Hobbs added that much of the creative process comes from the collaboration between the writers and musicians, with the artist himself playing a vital role in giving the final approval once everything aligns with the label’s vision. “Once I get greenlighted, everything’s cool with the label. But we’re looking forward to it. We need to get our butts working,” he remarked with enthusiasm.
As Gary Hobbs approaches 42 years in the Tejano music industry this May, he continues to connect with fans and keep Tejano music alive. Fans can look forward to his performance at the Memorial Weekend Bash in Victoria, Texas, where Hobbs and his band, The Usual Suspects, will bring their signature sound to the stage.
In addition to his upcoming album, Hobbs shared details about his highly anticipated Gary Hobbs, Family, and Friends Cruise scheduled for February 2026. This special event has grown into a unique Tejano music experience, drawing up to 600 guests—well beyond the typical cruise crowd. The cruise offers plenty of room for dancing, including a converted 60 x 40-foot ice skating rink, and takes place at night, providing an ideal atmosphere for fans to enjoy the music and the party.
“We’ve been blessed that these cruises are unlike any other,” Hobbs explained. “We have two full dances, one for 70s and 80s music, where everyone dresses up in vintage attire. We’ve also had meet and greets, and we’ve done some unique activities, like the ‘Hanging with Gary Podcast’ beach party, and the upcoming Tejano Loco beach party at Mr. Sancho’s.”
The upcoming 2026 cruise will feature performances from some of Tejano’s finest, including Jay Perez and his band, Ram Herrera, David Marez, Tejano Loco, and of course, Gary Hobbs and The Usual Suspects.
For those looking to stay connected with Gary Hobbs beyond the cruise and album, Hobbs also shared that he’s active on social media and has a podcast titled Hanging with Gary. “It’s an audio podcast, and it’s all about Gary Hobbs and Tejano music,” Hobbs said with a smile. “Anytime you can’t stop by and listen to it we appreciate all the help.”
As Gary Hobbs continues to shape the future of Tejano music, his upcoming album, cruise, and podcast are sure to provide fans with plenty of ways to experience his passion for the genre. Stay tuned for more updates from this iconic Tejano star.
