Public voting for the 38th Annual Tejano Music Awards began on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, and among the names in the Best New Artist – Female category is Mia, an 11-year-old middle school student from Austin, Texas.

Mia is the youngest nominee in the history of the awards, an honor that has attracted attention from various media outlets from Austin to San Antonio to Houston and international Spanish language media outlets Univision and Telemundo.

Mia, who first began singing at age five alongside her mother and has since progressively strengthened her vocals and learned to play the guitar, has been performing at various events around the state and released her debut album, La Reina Del Mundo, in December 2017 to widespread interest and strong reviews from industry insiders and fans alike. Her catchy single “Boom Boom Boom” has been featured on playlists on terrestrial and internet radio stations nationwide and climbed to #5 on the nationally-syndicated Tejano Gold Countdown radio show, hosted by Rudy Treviño.
