True-crime podcast will chronicle the life and death of Selena

Vault Studios, a digital content studio focused on true-crime storytelling, is launching “Selena: A Star Dies In Texas,” which chronicles the life, murder, and legacy of Tejano superstarSelena Quintanilla-Pérez.

The production company, owned byTegna, has worked with its family of Texas TV stations to uncover rare footage and interviews with Selena, her family and close friends, as well as key figures in the murder investigation and subsequent trial and conviction ofYolanda Saldívar.

On the 25th anniversary of Selena’s murder, Vault released a preview of the podcast, which is due later this spring. The six-part series will be narrated byRudy Treviño, KIII-TV news anchor and host of “Domingo Live” and syndicatedTejano Gold Countdownradio show.

“Selena was a once-in-a-generation talent who inspired fans around the world,” saysAdam Ostrow, chief digital officer at Tegna.

The new podcast “seeks to pay tribute to her legacy while telling her story to a new generation of music lovers and true crime fans.”

Twenty-five years ago, Selena was already a legend in the Tejano music world and on the verge of superstardom. On March 31, 1995, Selena’s close friend and fan club president pulled a gun from her purse and fired a single bullet. Selena was pronounced dead a short time later.

With access to an archive of rare and never-before-heard audio from Tegna’s network of TV newsrooms, Vault presents a new version of the shocking story.

Created in 2019, Vault’s initial slate of programming focuses on true crime, cold cases and unsolved mysteries from Tegna’s 62 TV stations in 51 markets. Its offerings are available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, Stitcher and Tegna’s owned-and-operated digital platforms.
