Burglary Suspect Found Living in 'Well-Built and Modern' Tree House

Burglar found in treehouse

A Southern California man suspected of burglarizing several homes was arrested after police used a helicopter with heat-sensing technology to find his tree house hideout in the Ganesha Hills.

In April, Pomona Police was called out to investigate a residential burglary in the Ganesha Hills neighborhood where several items were reportedly taken. A resident reportedly saw the suspect as he was leaving their property, carrying several items that belong to them.

About a month later, Mark Duda, 55 was arrested when Pomona Police received reports about a man matching Duda's description living and hanging out in a "very well-built and modern tree house in Ganesha hills." The tree house was well-disguised in the hills just outside Pomona, California.

In order to locate the tree house, Pomona police deployed a helicopter using its heat-sensing FLIR and discovered a heat source where the hidden tree house was located in the woods.

"A short time later, officers located a well-built tree house hidden deep into the hillside," Pomona Police wrote in a statement on Facebook. "The tree house contained many essentials such as a fire pit, barbeque, and lighting. Numerous verbal commands were given and the suspect eventually climbed down from the tree house."

The suspect was arrested without incident.

Duda was arrested on multiple charges and warrants including residential burglary. He's currently being held on $50,000 bail, according to sheriff's inmate records.
