Festival honoring Jimmy Gonzalez confirmed for June 30 in Brownsville

A music festival honoring late Tejano music iconJimmy Gonzalezhas been confirmed for June in his hometown, according to his family.

A social media post byAdolfo Garcia, son ofCindy Garcia, Gonzalez’s sister, the first annual Forever Jimmy G Festival is scheduled for June 30 at Dean Porter Park in Brownsville, Texas.

“It’s official…The 1st Annual Forever Jimmy G Festival is going to be on Sunday, June 30th @ Dean Porter Park here in Brownsville, Tx across from the Zoo,” Adolfoconfirmed via Facebook. “We are still taking in all kinds of vendors! If you sell arts & crafts, jewelry, clothing, memorabilia, food trucks, food booths, have any kind of exhibition please hit me up! The bigger the better. If you would like to be part of the annual festival in any way, please contact me .”

Gonzalez was a pioneer, a legend and a multiple Grammy Award winner that achieved international acclaim as part of one of the most successful Tejano groups ever. He died of cardiac arrest in June 2018. He was 67.
